Southwestern's Palmer; TLU's Yancey Named SCAC Softball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore infielder Taylor Yancey of Texas Lutheran University and freshman pitcher Cozette Palmer of Southwestern University were named SCAC Softball Players of the Week for their performances this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 31st – April 6th

TAYLOR YANCEY OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore first baseman from Magnolia, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 31st through Sunday, April 6th.

Yancey was in the middle of an absolutely dominant offensive weekend for Texas Lutheran as the Bulldogs scored 62 runs in four games against Schreiner. 

Yancey finished 10-for-16 (.625) with 13 RBI, nine runs and six extra-base hits, including two homers and four doubles. Yancey ended the weekend with a 1.250 slugging percentage.

Yancey's outstanding production came in the first doubleheader of the weekend at Schreiner where she went 7-for-9 with 10 RBI, five runs, one homer and four doubles. She went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles in the first game before following that up with an amazing 4-for-4 day with six RBI, four runs, a grand slam and two doubles.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior pitcher/infielder Sophia Hernandez of Austin College had an outstanding weekend both at the plate and on the mound as Austin College went 2-2, batting .385 with two doubles and two runs batted in. Sophomore infielder Erin Begle of Dallas was 2-for-7 this past weekend with a RBI including two stolen bases against Southwestern. Senior outfielder Tesaa Galloway of Southwestern posted a .625 batting average in two games. He had five hits in eight at bats with two doubles and one triple. Sophomore catcher Jennifer Gallagher of Texas Lutheran big moment this week came in a non-conference matchup against Pacific Lutheran. The sophomore was the hero for the Bulldogs, crushing a three-run walk-off home run in the seventh to secure a come-from-behind 5-4 win against the Lutes. Freshman infielder Hilary Hoffman of Trinity went 13-16 (.813) at the plate, scoring seven of her eight total runs for the week, and driving in three of her four RBI over the past six contests. Overall, she hit .700 (14-20) for the six games. Centenary and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 31st – April 6th

COZETTE PALMER OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a freshman right handed pitcher from West Linn, Ore., has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 31st through Sunday, April 6th.

Palmer led the Pirates to a 2-0 weekend over the University of Dallas to catapult Southwestern into third place in the SCAC Softball Standings.

Palmer posted an impressive 0.77 ERA this week. In two games, 11.2 innings of work, she allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out 15 and walking two. She entered in relief in game one and didn't allow a hit and recorded two wins in the two games. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior pitcher/infielder Sophia Hernandez of Austin College had an outstanding weekend both at the plate and on the mound as Austin College went 1-1 on the mound, sporting a 1.65 earned-run-average with 11 strikeouts while holding batters to just a .208 average in 17.0 innings of work. Freshman pitcher Samantha Yenne of Texas Lutheran appeared in two games over the weekend, tossing 7 1/3 innings and making one start. She allowed just three hits and one run in the two appearances, striking out six. Sophomore pitcher Katie Castillon of Trinity picked up wins in two of the three Tiger wins against Centenary over the weekend, and went 2-1 overall last week.  She held an ERA of 1.75 in her two games against Centenary, giving up just two earned runs in eight innings of work. Centenary, Dallas, and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
