TLU's Jacobsen, Austin College's Hernandez Named SCAC Softball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Junior infielder Ashley Jacobsen of Texas Lutheran University and sophomor pitcher Sophia Hernandez of Austin College have been named SCAC Softball Players of the Week after outstanding performances this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 24th – March 2nd

ASHLEY JACOBSEN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior infielder from Marion, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 24th through Sunday, March 2nd.

Jacobsen finished the weekend 5-for-8 (.625) in two games against Houston-Victoria. 

The junior racked up two doubles, scored three runs and drove an one RBI, while slugging .875. She led the team with those five hits and also stole two bases.

In the first game of the day, a 10-6 Bulldog loss, Jacobsen finished 3-for-4 with a double, and RBI and two runs scored. She notched both of her stolen bases in that game. She finished the second game 2-for-4 with another double and run scored.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior utility Taylor Garcia of Dallas had a strong weekend at the plate, batting .667 with a double, a home run and two RBIs this past weekend against Millsaps. Senior infielder Karen Ramirez of Southwestern hit .571 this week, posting four hits in seven at bats. She had one double for a .714 slugging percentage, drew one walk while striking out once. She also drove in three runs and scored twice. Austin College, Centenary and Schreiner did not nominate anyone. Trinity was idle.

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 24th – March 2nd

SOPHIA HERNANDEZ OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore right handed pitcher and infielder from Lake Jackson, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 24th through Sunday, March 2nd.

Hernandez tossed a complete game to get a victory over Greenville in her only appearance of the week, scattering seven hits and allowing three runs, only two earned, with five strikeouts. 

She also helped her own cause with an RBI double to lead the 'Roos to a split over the past weekend.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman pitcher Nicole Gibbs of Southwestern posted a 6.00 ERA in games this week. In two starts she allowed four earned runs on 10 hits in six innings while walking three and striking out three. Austin College, Centenary, and Schreiner did not nominate anyone. Trinity was idle.
