Schreiner's Scudder, Dallas' Lee Named SCAC Softball Player of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Freshman outfielder Sammy Scudder of Schreiner University and freshman pitcher Katherine Lee of the University of Dallas have been named SCAC Softball Players of the Week for their terrific performances this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 3rd – March 9th

SAMMY SCUDDER OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a freshman outfielder from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 3rd through Sunday, March 9th.

Scudder was outstanding this past weekend for the Mountaineers, going 6-for-12 (.500) at the plate with a triple and six RBIs to lead Schriener to a series split against defending champion Southwestern.

Scudder came through with two outs in the bottom of the seventh with a two RBI single to give the Mountaineers a 7-6 win over the Pirates and earn a two game sweep on Saturday.

The following day she had a huge bases clearing triple that forced extra innings. She finished with four RBIs in the game.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior catcher Mary Ann Allison of Centenary paced the Ladies at the dish with a .462 batting average going 6-for-13 at the plate. Freshman outfielder Lyda Tesauro of Dallas hit .667 this week with eight hits including a RBI, three stolen bases, a double, and five runs scored to lead Dallas to a 3-1 record over the weekend. Sophomore catcher Christina Crandall of Southwestern hit .533 this week with eight hits in 15 at bats. She also had one double and three RBIs with a .600 slugging percentage. Junior outfielder Jaime Ohm of Texas Lutheran racked up a double, scored two runs and drove in an RBI during the series, helping the Bulldogs win three out of four while batting .667. Junior catcher Caitlynn Dykes of Trinity went 2-3 with two runs and three RBI in the victory, crushing a three-run homer that gave Trinity its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth.  The game was called one batter later, making her round-tripper the game-winner. Austin College was idle.

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 3rd – March 9th

KATHERINE LEE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a freshman right handed pitcher from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 3rd through Sunday, March 9th.

Lee pitched 18.2 innings and picked up two wins this past weekend to lead the University of Dallas to a 3-1 weekend over Centenary.

Lee started the series off with a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits and striking out seven in the win. 

She came in relief and pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless ball, allowing only one hit and followed that up with a complete game, allowing three hits and only one run (unearned) to clinch the series.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior pitcher Lynsi Unruh of Centenary recorded 18 strikeouts in 18.2 innings of work while going 1-1 in the circle and also drove in two runs. Freshman pitcher Destiny Rodriguez of Schreiner pitched a shutout to earn Schreiner its first conference win in the SCAC along with four assist on the weekend. Freshman pitcher Cozette Palmer of Southwestern rearned her first win of the season with 4.2 innings of work. She allowed just one run on three hits while striking out nine and walking none. Freshman pitcher Amanda Lochte of Texas Lutheran was dominant against Calumet College St. Joseph this week, throwing 10 innings and allowing just two earned runs for an ERA of 1.40. Sophomore pitcher Katie Castillon of Trinity gave up three runs on six hits in five innings of work, striking out five batters.  After suffering through a rain-soaked first inning during which she allowed two runs, Castillon settled in and pitched the team to victory. Austin College was idle.
