LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Texas Lutheran took control of the top of the SCAC Standings, improving to 13-1 in SCAC play as they took three out of four from Trinity. The Bulldogs dropped the opening game to snap their 10 game SCAC winning streak, but came back and won the next three games, giving up only three runs in the process. Centenary and Austin College split as well as Dallas and Schreiner to stay in the hunt for the postseason.

Austin College went 2-2 against Centenary
over the weekend, falling 7-2 in both halves of its doubleheader on
Saturday before getting back to back shutout victories on Sunday,
winning by scores of 9-0 and 5-0. Victoria Herrera was sensational
on the mound all weekend, boasting a 1.21 earned-run-average and
going 2-1 with a strikeouts to walk ratio of 22 to 3. On Sunday,
Herrera tossed two complete game shutouts with nine strikeouts in
game one and eight more in game two. Her first strikeout in game
one on Sunday set a new Austin College single season strikeout
record. Taylor Steelman was outstanding at the plate all weekend,
batting .615 with six runs, two doubles, and an RBI, and Emily Low
batted .385 with five RBI. Sophia Hernandez added a .357 average
and Briana Hernandez drove in four runs on the weekend.
Centenary went 2-4 this week, but registered back-to-back SCAC wins for the first time since Apr. 22, 2013 against Dallas. The Ladies finished their SCAC series at Austin College splitting the two twinbills. Centenary had three players hit .400-plus for the week. Whitney Patterson, Cadie Hancock and Mary Ann Allison each posted a .4112 batting average collecting seven hits apiece. Amber Smith batted .333 for the week while finishing second on the team in RBI with three. Lynsi Unruh stood as the pitcher of record in all six outings. The senior tossed 24.1 innings including two complete games. Unruh fanned 15, walked 15 and surrendered 34 hits during her time in the circle. Centenary returns to action on Friday, Apr. 4 as the Ladies host Trinity in a four-game series over the weekend.
Dallas went 2-2 on the week, in conference games. On Saturday, in Kerrville, Texas, the Lady Crusaders fell 7-2 (F/7) to Schreiner, before achieving a 14-8 (F/7) win in game two. On Sunday, head coach Beth Krysiak’s squad was defeated 9-0 (F/5) by the Lady Mountaineers in game three of the series, but persevered to a 10-7 (F/7) decision in the series finale. Dallas visits Richardson, Texas, for a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday versus the University of Texas-Dallas. The navy and white host Southwestern this weekend -- Saturday (1 p.m. 2x7) and Sunday (12 p.m. 2x7).
Schreiner took on Conference foe, Dallas, on Saturday and Sunday. The Mountaineers split the weekend series (2-2), winning the first games of both double-headers. The two conference wins moves the Mountaineers up the standings from 4th place to 3rd place as the their push for the post-season continues. Pitcher Destiny Rodriguez went 2-1 on the weekend while continuing to lead the conference in strikeouts with 17 on the weekend (62 overall). She was supported offensively by Stormie Lutz, who recorded 8 RBI’s and defensively by Sr. Holly Molenaar who had 17 put-outs over the weekend. Mountaineers will have their last home stand as they face conference rival Texas Lutheran on Friday at 5pm.

Southwestern had a off weekend from SCAC conference play and faced only Concordia in a non-conference double-header on Tuesday. A couple of seventh-inning comebacks gave Southwestern a split, winning 3-2 before falling 7-6. now 9-14-1 on the year and 5-5 in the SCAC, Southwestern kicks off a four game series on Saturday against the University of Dallas beginning on Saturday at 1 pm.
Texas Lutheran won four out of its six games this week, splitting a non-conference doubleheader against Pacific Lutheran before taking three out of four in a crucial home SCAC series against Trinity. Jennifer Gallagher was the hero against Pacific Lutheran, cranking a three-run walk-off home run to lift the Bulldogs to a come-from-behind 5-4 win in the second game of the doubleheader. The pitching staff was tremendous in the series against second-place Trinity, giving up just three earned runs in the four games for an ERA of just 0.72. The three wins helped open up a three-game lead in the loss column as the Bulldogs try to fend off Trinity for the SCAC regular-season title and the right to host the SCAC Championship.
Trinity went 2-6 over the past week, splitting with Linfield to start things off, but then going just 1-5 over the remaining games. The Tigers were swept by nationally-ranked Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday, then lost three of four games over the weekend in the SCAC series against Texas Lutheran. This week, Trinity will be back on the road for six more games, facing off against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Centenary College. The Tigers will finally play a doubleheader that was rescheduled from February 25 against UMHB, then will head to Shreveport, Louisiana, for a four-game SCAC series against the Ladies.
