TLU's Leschber; Schreiner's Lutz Named SCAC Softball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Freshman utility Stormie Lutz of Schreiner University and junior pitcher Kimberly Leschber of Texas Lutheran University have been named SCAC Softball Players of the Week for their terrific performances this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 24th – March 30th

STORMIE LUTZ OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a freshman utility from Goliad, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 24th through Sunday, March 30th.

Lutz enjoyed a productive week in helping the Mountaineers to a series split against Dallas.

Lutz was lights out over the weekend, hitting 8-for-12 (.667) with two doubles, two triples, a home run, and eight RBIs to lead Schreiner.

Lutz went 1-for-2 in the first game of the series including a three run homer to lead the Mountaineers to victory. She followed that up with another three RBI day on Saturday, going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and three RBIs in the 9-0 win.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outfielder Taylor Steelman of Austin College had an outstanding weekend at the plate for Austin College, batting .615 with six runs scored, two doubles, and an RBI. Junior catcher Cadie Hancock of Centenary was one of three Ladies to hit plus-.400 for the week while also tying for the team lead in hits with seven. Freshman shortstop Lyda Tesauro of Dallas was 6-for-13 this past weekend with five RBIs and three stolen bases in a weekend split with Schreiner. Junior outfielder Linsay Biggers of Southwestern hit .429 for the Pirates with three hits in seven at bats. She also scored twice and had a triple with a .714 slugging percentage. Sophomore catcher Jennifer Gallagher of Texas Lutheran big moment this week came in a non-conference matchup against Pacific Lutheran. The sophomore was the hero for the Bulldogs, crushing a three-run walk-off home run in the seventh to secure a come-from-behind 5-4 win against the Lutes. Senior infielder Chrissy Armstrong of Trinity led the Tigers with a .333 batting average over the past week, going 8-24 with one run and three RBI in the eight games played. 

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  March 24th – March 30th

KIMBERLY LESCHBER OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior right handed pitcher from Thorndale, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 24th through Sunday, March 30th.

Leschber finished 1-0 on the week, appearing in three games and making two starts. 

Leschber finished with 13 innings of work, allowing just one earned run for an ERA of just 0.54 for the week. She gave up 10 hits and struck out three. Opponents hit just .204 against her.

She came in from the bullpen in TLU's 4-3 loss to Pacific. Leschber gave up just one hit in four innings in her work against the Lutes. She also started two games against Trinity, earning one win and a no-decision. She tossed nine innings in those two starts, allowing just one earned run on nine hits.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman pitcher Victoria Herrera of Austin College had a sensational weekend for the 'Roos, making four appearances and going 2-1 with a 1.21 ERA in 17.1 innings of work. Freshman pitcher Chloe Campise of Dallas pitched 24 total innings, going 2-2 wiht one strikeout as they split with Schreiner. Freshman pitcher Cozette Palmer of Southwestern posted a 3.60 era in two appearances. In 5.0 innings of work she allowed five hits, two runs on two strikeouts while walking one. Sophomore pitcher Kaci Wellik of Trinity was 2-2 over the past week, leading the Tigers to the only two wins of the week, and posting an ERA of 2.07 in 27 innings of work. Centenary and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
