JAMES URBINA OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a junior from Pflugerville, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, September 23 through Saturday, September 24. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 4)
Urbina finished in fourth place at the Concordia (Texas) Classic, clocking in at 23:49 for his best finish of the season. His finish helped St. Thomas secure second place, the highest of any Division II and III school at the meet.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Carlos Cura of Texas Lutheran continues to improve as he finished seventh overall and fourth overall among SCAC/D3 competitors at the Concordia (Texas) Classic. He was only 22 seconds away from the top SCAC/D3 competitor in the race as his "turn and burn" tactic at the finish garnered him a time of 24:05 over the significantly short 8K race. Sophomore Xander Bailey of Southwestern led the pack aiding in the Pirates' solid third-place team finish at the Concordia (Texas) Classic. Amongst a combination of SCAC, ASC, NAIA, and Division II opponents, Bailey earned a top ten finish for eighth place, recording an average mile of 5:18.5 with a total time of 24:04.7. Junior Nico Walz of Dallas ran 26.37 for the shortened 7.3k course at the Concordia (Texas) Classic. Converted to an 8K, Walz would of ran a PR with a time of 29:19.
