SCAC Men's Cross Country Recap - Week Seven

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Seven of the league's men’s cross country teams were in action last week, highlighted by Austin College picking up a victory at the East Texas Baptist Home Meet.

The 'Roos won their third straight meet at the East Texas Baptist Invitational on Friday evening. The Austin College men were once again led by first place finisher RJ Navarro, who set a new personal record in the 8K with a time of 26:53.3, topping his previous best time by over a minute and establishing a new program record. Johnny Biffar finished fourth with a time of 27:25.50, Chris Biffar was eighth with a time of 28:03.70, and Andrew Thomas also had a top 10 finish with a time of 28:13.40, good for ninth. The University of Dallas men finished sixth as John James led the Crusaders with a 10th place finish with a time of 29:31.

Noah Dennis paced the Southwestern men at their own home meet, finishing first in a field of 32 runners. The first-year runner was able to get his second wind in the last pull to pass TAMU-Kingsville's Devin Robles to take medalist with an 8K time of 28:42. CP Shaulis came in third with a time of 29:08 as Southwestern finished second in the four-team field. Schreiner also ran at the Pirate Invitational, placing third. The Mountaineers were led by first-year Marco Hernandez who placed seventh in a time of 30:27.8.

Colorado College and Johnson & Wales both ran at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open. Both squads finished 10th in a 13-team field as the CC men ran in the Gold Division race and the JWU men ran in the Black Division race. Freshman Max Saliman  finished in 67th place to lead the Tiger men, completing the 8K course in 26:55.6. Junior Andrew West was 69th in a time of 26:57.9.  Senior John Jacob etched his name atop the JWU school record book, posting an 8K time of 26:14.5 to break Alberto Rodriguez's previous program record of 26:15.6. He finished 13th individually. 

CC also sent runners to the unscored UC-Colorado Springs Cross Country Open. Keith Parker was the top finisher for the Tigers, posting an 8K time of 29:28.5.

Texas Lutheran sent a contingent of runners to the 23rd annual Disney Cross Country Classic. Juan Moreno paced the Bulldogs with a finishing time of 30:27.2 at the 8K event.

Next week is another busy weekend with harriers from seven squads in action at various meets, including Austin College, Dallas, Schreiner and Trinity at the McMurry University/Bill Libby Invitational.
