LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five of the league's men’s cross country teams were in action last week, with three teams competing at the Concordia (Texas) Classic and two at the New Mexico Highlands Cross Country Jam.
Colorado College and Johnson & Wales University Denver finished 1-2 at the New Mexico Highlands Cross Country Jam Saturday morning in Las Vegas, N.M.
Five CC runners finished in the top 10, led by senior Adam Mahler who placed fourth after completing the 8K course in a season-best time of 27:14. Sophomore Sam Rodriguez finished sixth in 27:48, followed by junior Andrew West in seventh (27:56) and freshman Emerson Worrell in eighth (28:07). Freshman Theo Snowden rounded out CC's scorers with a 10th-place result in 28:19.
For JWU, senior John Jacob's third-place finish (26:51) led all SCAC runners and paced the Wildcats to a runner-up finish. Teammate and fellow senior Bryce Moore clocked in at 27:27 in the 8-kilometer race to place fifth.
The University of St. Thomas was the top finishing SCAC squad at the Concordia (Texas) Classic Friday evening as freshman Lucas Wolf paced the Celts with a 17th-place finish in the 90-runner field. UST placed fourth among the 11 teams that scored and only behind one Division III program (Hardin-Simmons). Wolf completed the 8K course in a time of 28:50.7 and was followed by teammates Alonzo Corrall (29:06.01 - 21st) and Oscar Padilla (29:07.3 - 22nd).
Schreiner and Texas Lutheran also competed at the Concordia Classic, with the Mountaineers finishing in 11th place and TLU sending just two runners to the meet. First-year Marco Hernandez paced Schreiner, navigating the 8K course at Old Settlers Park in a time of 30:38.9 for a 40th place finish. Sophomore Juan Moreno led TLU with a finishing time of 32:32.50 (57th place).
Action heats up this weekend, with seven teams competing in various meets, including Southwestern and Trinity returning to the course at the 31st Annual Chile Pepper Festival Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.
