SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Trinity
men’s and women’s cross country teams will have a new
head coach for the first time in 12 years, as Director of Athletics
Bob King has announced that Derick Lawrence will take over the
program this fall.
Coach Lawrence has been Trinity’s assistant cross country
and track & field coach the past two seasons, after serving
three years as an assistant coach in Indiana.
After graduating from DePauw in 2007, Lawrence was a volunteer
assistant at Indiana State University. He returned to his alma
mater after that season, serving two years as a graduate assistant
with the DePauw Tigers. Lawrence earned All-Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference honors with DePauw in 2006
Coach Lawrence has helped lead the team to a second-place finish
at the SCAC Championships in women’s cross country last
season, and had two runners (Maddie Murphy and Rosemary Steup) earn
spots at the NCAA Championships the past two years.
Coach Lawrence holds a Level 1 Coaching Education Certification
from USA Track & Field.
In addition to being the head cross country coach during the fall,
Coach Lawrence will also serve as an assistant coach with the track
