SCAC Men's Track & Field Recap - Week Five

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The outdoor track & field season continued for teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference

For Austin College, Chris Biffar set a new record in the 800-meter and the 'Roo distance track team performed well at the Oklahoma Baptist University Invite on Saturday. Biffar finished with a time of 2:08.85 in the 800m event, finishing 40th in the event. He also performed well in the 1500, coming in with a time of 4:26.93 for 29th place.

Colorado College split up for the Spank Blasing Meet in Pueblo and the Alex Francis Classic in Hays, Kan. In Pueblo, Henry Baldwin led the way with a second-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6'4.75". Ben Hall followed in third place, equaling his season-best jump of 5'10.75". Quin Gattey finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles race with a time of 59.32 seconds, while Justin Nguyen (400-meter hurdles), Sean Fite (200-meter dash), Trevor Hightower (long jump), Damon Hardwick (400-meter dash) and Peter Chapman (shot put) each finished eighth. Meanwhile, Nguyen, Gattey, and Hardwick joined Andrew West to finish third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:34.41.

In Kansas, Max Blackburn posted the Tigers' best finish of the day by placing third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:24.48. Adam Mahler finished seventh in the race in 12:02.67. Tony Calderon also had a top-ten result by finishing seventh in the 5K with a time of 15:56.55.

The University of Dallas competed at the Dan Veach Invitational hosted by Southern Arkansas University. Kevin McGuirk highlighted the meet for UD, breaking the school record in the 400 meter hurdles with a 59.69 time. The previous record was 1:00.15 held by Nick Heyne at the University of Dallas Invitational on March 4th, 2006. McGuirk's time placed him seventh in the event.

Prince Giadolor posted a time of 11.49 seconds for 11th in the 100 meter dash, while coming in 15th in the 200 meter with a 23.27 mark.

Southwestern University, Texas Lutheran University and Trinity University all competed in San Antonio at the Trinity Tiger Invite.

For SU, John Hattan had a huge run in the 5000m, placing fifth with a time of 16:11.29 while Brian McCutcheon led the team in the 100m with a solid time of 11.49. In field events, Devin Rosas was eighth in the long jump at 6.57m while Sam Grubbs earned a ninth place finish in the hammer throw at 40.00m.

The Bulldogs posted top finishes in both relays at the meet, finishing the 4x100 relay with a time of 42.20 seconds, which ranks 11th in Division III and the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:18.01, which is second in Division III. TLU also holds the 15th-best mark in the 4x400 relay as well.

Paris Foster had a strong weekend, finishing third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.77 seconds, which now ranks eighth in D3, and fifth in the 200 meter with a time of 22.06, 26th in the nation. Finishing just ahead of him in the 200 meter event was teammate Michael Wong, who posted the 19th best time in Division III this year with a mark of 21.97 seconds for fourth place.

In the field events, Trevor Roberts posted the best finish, taking second in the javelin with a mark of 51.08 meters. Chad Wieland came in third in the pole vault with a height of 4.40 meteres, while Dalton Masters took fourth in the high jump at 1.90 meters. Garrett Garza (shot put), Jacob Guercia (javelin) and Hunter Ullrich (hammer throw) each finished fifth in their events.

Trinity's Cody Hall bested a nine-year-old record in the long jump, leaping past Todd Wildman's 2009 mark of 7.11 meters. Hall jumped 7.24 meters to finish second overall in the event, but first among collegiate competition. Additionally, Hall also won the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.52 seconds and the high jump with a mark of 2.00 meters. Both are the best this season for the Tigers, and Hall's high jump mark is a career-best. It also puts him in a tie for third all-time at Trinity in the high jump.

Blair Walker raced to the finish in a Trinity season-best time of 49.72 in the 400 meter dash, placing third overall and first among college runners. Seve Rodriguez was just behind walker in a time of 49.92 seconds. Michael Erickson led a Tiger group that took the top three spots in the 1500 meter run, finishing the event in 3:58.06. Jacob Hammond and Elliot Blake were both less than four seconds behind their teammate in second and third.

Naim Barnett took first in the triple jump with his mark of 13.61 meters, while David Buss won the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:10.83. Buss also finished ninth in the javelin with a Tiger season-best throw of 40.84 meters.

Matt Love took second place in the discus, while Chris Stewart and Christian Matta both placed in the top 10 in the 100 meter dash. Harry Bellow took second in the men's 800 meter run to place sixth in school history in the event.
