GEORGETOWN, Texas -  Southwestern University Director of Athletics Dr. Glada Munt announced Tuesday that Andrew Diehl will take over head coaching duties of the men's and women's track & field teams while continuing to assist with the men's and women's cross country program.

Five-time Olympian and long-time head coach of both programs, Francie Larrieu Smith, remains the head coach of the cross country program and will remain involved in the track & field program as an assistant while also serving as senior woman administrator at Southwestern.

Diehl spent the past season as the assistant coach for both programs and came to Southwestern after spending two years as the graduate assistant track & field coach at St. Lawrence University.

While at St. Lawrence, Diehl worked with jumpers, sprinters, javelin throwers and multi-event athletes while also being extensively involved in planning and hosting the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship.

Diehl was a member of the 2015 and '16 Indoor Coaching Staff of the Year and 2015 Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year. Diehl and the Saints won two Liberty League women's team indoor championships ('15, '16) and one outdoor championship (2015). St. Lawrence also boasted the 2016 Outdoor and Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and 2016 Liberty League triple jump and long jump champions.

Prior to St. Lawrence, Diehl spent one season at Ohio Wesleyan University as the track and field championships intern where he aided in planning and execution of the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Diehl also interned at the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

A 2014 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Diehl earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Human Kinetics before earning his master's degree in educational leadership at St. Lawrence.
