AUSTIN, Texas
– Texas Lutheran senior Marquis Brown added an Academic All-America® honor to his four running All-America awards with the announcement Tuesday of the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III Cross Country/Track & Field Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Full Release

Brown is the first TLU male student-athlete to receive Google Cloud Academic All-America® honors in Men's Track & Field or Men's Cross Country.

Brown was named to the Academic All-America® Third Team.

Brown is the 38th all-time Academic All-America selection in school history. He is the third Bulldog to claim the honor in 2017-18. He joins 2017-18 honorees Riley Schaefer and Dylan Drgac of TLU Baseball on the Bulldogs' all-time list.

The 2017 NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field national champion in the 400 meters, Brown is a four-time All-American on the track. He secured three outdoor track & field honors and one indoor track & field award.

Brown is a four-time SCAC Track Athlete of the Year. He was the 2016-17 TLU Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

At the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in La Crosse, Wis., Brown anchored TLU's 4x100 relay team to a national runner-up finish. Brown then claimed his fourth All-America award by finishing sixth in the 400 with a time of 47.37 seconds.

Brown also was a member of the 4x400 relay team, which just missed out on All-America honors with a ninth-place finish in the championship final.

Earlier this year, Brown picked up All-Region awards in three events - the 400, the 4x100 and the 4x400.

At the 2018 SCAC Track and Field Championship meet, Brown won the 400 for the fourth consecutive year - becoming just the 10th man in league history to win the same event four times in a career.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® awards are announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Award recipients are nominated by university sports information directors. Academic All-District® and Academic All-America® honors are determined by votes among the CoSIDA membership.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
