Southwestern's Sponsel, Quintero Named SCAC Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior distance runner Joe Sponsel and junior field athlete Joey Quintero of Southwestern University has been named SCAC Track and Field Athletes of the Week after impressive performances this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC TRACK ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK
Events through Sunday, March 23rd

JOE SPONSEL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior from Georgetown, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Track Athlete-of-the-Week for meets through Sunday, March 23rd.

Sponsel won his first ever event, winning the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Texas A&M Kingsville Cactus Cup Invitational this past weekend in Kingsville, Texas.

Sponsel
finished in a time of 10:40.63 to earn 10 points for the Pirates, the highest single event point total for any Pirate at the meet.

The Pirate men finished in seventh place overall out of nine, majority upper-level teams. 

 

SCAC FIELD ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK

JOEY QUINTERO OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Karnes, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Field Athlete-of-the-Week for meets through Sunday, March 23rd.

Quintero led the Pirates' men's throwing team at the Texas A&M Kingsville Cactus Cup Invitational on Saturday.

Quintero's marks of 10.75m in the shot, 34.95m in the discus, 31.00m in teh hammer and 36.11m in the javelin led the Pirates to a seventh place finish.
