ATLANTA, Ga. - Oglethorpe has begun a search
for its third Head Coach of Track and Field in the modern era. The
new coach will replace Bob Unger, who will continue as Head Coach
of the men's and women's cross country teams.
In 1990, Unger re-started the sport of track and field which
Oglethorpe had dropped in the 1980's. In the ensuing 20 years, the
men's teams recorded a dual meet record of 46 wins, 17 losses and 2
ties while the women's teams won 59 duals against only 8 defeats.
Seventy-nine of the existing eighty-three track and field records
were set during a tenure that included Unger coaching 352
student-athletes in track and field.
Since Oglethorpe joined the SCAC in 1992, Unger has coached 18 individual conference champions, 83 individual All-Conference finalists, 5 All-Conference relay teams and made three trips to the NCAA Championships with national finalists. Three of his former student-athletes have been inducted into Oglethorpe's Athletic Hall of Fame: Jean Faasse '92, Stephen Summerow '92 and Katie Farrell '95.

I am happy that he has agreed to stay on as our cross country coach next year. We will begin the search for a new Track Coach this summer."
