Southwestern's Dimanche Wins West Region ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the 2020 ITA Division III Regional Award winners on Wednesday, May 20 and Southwestern University senior Alexis Dimanche was presented the West Region ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award. Click here to view the complete ITA Region Year End Awards list

The prestigious Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, which dates back to 1982, is presented to men's and women's student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements in ways that embody the legacy of tennis icon and humanitarian Arthur Ashe Jr.

Dimanche finished the season with a 5-1 singles record playing exclusively from the No. 1 position, including a victory over Redlands' Andrew Leahy to clinch the Pirates' 5-4 victory over the No. 18-ranked team at the time.

The No. 7 ranked player in the West Region whent he 2020 season came to a premature end, Dimanche finished his career with 131 combined wins, edging out teammate Dean Dulthummon by two victories for the program's all-time record.

Dimanche is the first SCAC Student-Athlete to earn this honor since Grant Gideon of Southwestern was honored in 2018.
