LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four conference men's tennis teams were on the court this past week for the beginning of the spring portion of the 2018-19 season as inclement weather wreaked havoc on several of the scheduled matches.

Trinity, which already has seven matches under its belt in the early going, picked up a victory over #29 Lewis & Clark, 8-1, on Saturday in a match played on covered courts at John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels. The 17th-ranked Tigers, who improved to 3-4 on the season and 3-0 against DIII competiton, captured two of three doubles matches as Wilson Hamilton and Christian Settles took the second line, while Matt Tyer and Artur Zigman were winners on the third. All six singles matches went to Trinity players in straight sets. The closest was #3 singles when Hamilton fought his way to winning a first-set tiebreaker.

Texas Lutheran (1-0) earned a victory in its lone match of the week, a 9-0 sweep of Howard Payne on the campus of Schreiner University. Alex Talley didn't drop a game to take a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles while Nick Roccaforte cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win on the No. 2 line. Matthew Stephenson and Johari Dramiga teamed up to take an 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while Talley and Jacob Galindo earned an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. The Bulldogs were scheduled to play Centenary on Saturday afternoon, but the matches were canceled due to inclement weather. Sunday's match against Sul Ross State (scheduled to be played at Schreiner) was also cancelled.

After dropping its first match of the spring last Saturday, Schreiner (1-1) bounced back with a 5-0 home victory over conference foe Centenary (0-1) on Saturday. The Mountaineers swept the doubles action with 8-0 victories across all three lines. Joshua Newman (6-2, 6-0) and Andrew Albright (6-1, 6-0) earned victories at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles lines, respectively, to clinch the victory. Rain cancelled Saturday's second match against Sul Ross State and Sunday matches against Lewis & Clark and Howard Payne were also a casualty to the inclement weather.

Southwestern's lone schedued match of the weekend - a home tilt against No. 29 Lews & Clark - was cancelled due to inclement weather.
