DENISON, Texas -- The Austin College men earned their third consecutive third-place team finish with a 5-0 shutout of Schreiner University Sunday morning at the 2019 SCAC Men's Tennis Championship. Official Website l Bracket | Postmatch Interview
The third-place finish ties for the program's best finish in the SCAC Men's Tennis tournament since joining the league prior to the 2007 season.
The 'Roos (8-8) took an early 3-0 lead after doubles with 8-2 victories across the board at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. In singles play, Kenneth Hardy clinched the match at line three with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Schreiner's Matthew Jimenez. Josh Granberry also picked up a win at No. 1 singles (6-2, 7-5) and did not drop a set throughout the tournament.
This year's finish for Schreiner (6-12) ties for its best since joining the conference prior to the 2014 season and markes the fifth time in six years the Mountaineers have secured the fourth place position.
