Trinity to Face Whitman in Opening Round of NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Trinity University men will meet Whitman College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament this weekend as they travel to California.

Trinity (16-10) and Whitman (24-6) will join the University of Texas at Tyler in the  regional hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont, Calif.. All four teams will receive a first round bye.

Trinity has played all three teams in the group this season, defeating both Whitman, 5-4, and UT-Tyler, 7-2, while falling to CMS, 3-6.

The Tigers won their eighth straight SCAC Men's Tennis Championship at the end of April to earn the league's automatic bid. During the regular season, Trinity posted a 16-10 record, while earning four wins over nationally ranked opponents. Four of the Tigers losses came to non-Division III opponents, while the rest all came to opponents ranked in the nation's top-15.

The Tigers first match will be played on Saturday, May 13 with a time that is to be determined. The winner will play Sunday, May 14. The winner of the regional will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. for the final rounds.
