SCAC Announces 2017 Men's Tennis All-Tournament Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2017 SCAC Men's Tennis all-Tournament team this morning. Complete Release

Trinity's Clayton Niess earned All-Tournament honors for the fourth consecutive year. He partnered with Chas Mayer to earn a spot as a member of the No. 2 doubles team this year. Previously, he has received all-tourney recognition in 2014 (doubles), 2015 (singles and doubles) and 2016 (doubles). Mayer earned recognition for his play as a singles and a doubles player for the second consecutive year. He was also honored for doubles in 2015.

Wilson Lambeth and Matt Tyer of Trinity, along with Kenneth Hardy, Erik Meendsen and Preston Glasscock of Austin College, each earned all-tournament recognition the last two years.

The 13th-ranked Trinity University men's tennis team garnered its eighth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a 5-1 victory over Southwestern University on Sunday.

With the victory Trinity (16-10) also secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. Sunday's win also carried a historical achievement as it was the 22nd overall SCAC men's tennis crown for Trinity. No other program in league history has as many SCAC championships as the Trinity men's tennis program.

The doubles matches turned out to be a battle, with Trinity taking two of the three tandem matchups. Trinity and Southwestern split Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Chas Mayer and Clayton Niess won the second line, while Jordan Pitts and Liam Crawley came up short on the third and fell to Dean Dulthummon and Will Ellis. The Tigers' Matt Tyer and Wilson Lambeth then fought their way to a #1 doubles victory, by the tight score of 9-8.

Singles turned out to be a different matter, as the Tigers won the top three solo matches. Mayer won the first line, Lambeth took the second, and Pitts clinched the match with a decision at #3 singles.
