
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Trinity University's Paxton Deuel ended his collegiate career at the 2016 NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship Thursday afternoon.
Deuel, a senior from Bend, Ore., opened the tournament with a victory, defeating Jake Humphreys of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 6-3, 7-6. Humphreys kept it close in the second set, eventually forcing the tiebreaker, which Deuel won 7-5.
In his second match of the day, Deuel took on Abhishek Alla of Carnegie Mellon University. Alla came out strong in both sets, eventually winning the match 6-2, 6-2.
This was the second time that Deuel has participated in the NCAA Tournament. He will finish the year 16-5 at the No. 1 single spot. Today's loss ended a nine-match winning streak for him.
