Trinity Men's Tennis Receives First Round Bye in NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After earning the program’s 20th Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship, the Trinity University men’s tennis team has earned its 22nd overall and sixth consecutive NCAA Division III tournament berth.

Trinity will receive a first round bye and will meet the winner of the match between Wilkes University (19-2) and Grove City College (7-6) in the second round on May 8 or 9 at the University of Mary Washington.

The Tigers are 34-25 in NCAA postseason play, including a third place finish at last year’s event after defeating Middlebury College 5-4 in the team’s final match of the season.

Trinity, led by Head Coach Russell McMindes, will enter the tournament with a record of 17-8. Only three of the team’s eight losses have come to Division III opponents. All three of these losses came to opponents ranked within the top 11 in the nation. Overall, the Tigers are 7-3 against opponents ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Top 25.

Earlier in the spring, Trinity won the program’s first ever ITA Indoor National Championship, defeating No. 18 Gustavus Adolphus College, No. 17 Johns Hopkins University and No. 4 Emory University at GAC. The Tigers also earned the inaugural Steve Wilkinson Team Sportsmanship Award after the ITA Championship.
