Southwestern and Trinity Advance to SCAC Men's Tennis Championship

GEORGETOWN, Texas –The Trinity University Tigers and the Southwestern University Pirates each won their semifinal matches Saturday afternoon to advance to the 2015 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Championship Match Sunday morning.  This is the first SCAC Men’s Tennis Championship appearance for the Pirates, and the 24th consecutive for the Tigers.
After receiving a first round bye, the top-seeded Trinity Tigers defeated fourth-seeded Texas Lutheran 5-0 Saturday afternoon. The Tigers were able to handle the Bulldogs in the top two doubles matches, but in the third spot, TLU put up a fight, forcing a tiebreaker. Trinity ended up winning the break to take a 3-0 lead into singles. Aaron Skinner and Clayton Neiss won their matches at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, to give TU the win.

In the second semifinal, Southwestern rallied from a 2-1 doubles deficit to post four singles wins and take the match. Oliver Farmen and Sam McCready gave the Pirates their first point in doubles, taking the third line 8-5 over Schreiner. Farmen also posted a three set win in the No. 2 singles spot. Niko Snovely, Neik Khansari and William Ellis all posted singles victories to earn the win and advance to the team’s first ever SCAC Men’s Tennis Championship match.

In the first consolation match, the Austin College ‘Roos took down the Centenary College Gents 6-0. AC gave up just one game through all of doubles play. Singles went in a similar fashion, with Centenary able to claim just two games.

Colorado College took down Austin College in a battle for fifth place, posting a score of 6-1. The Tigers took a 2-1 lead after doubles and held strong in singles play, posting four wins. Ross Sherman faced the most challenge, needing three sets to win his match in the fourth line.
