Trinity Men's Tennis Drops to No. 6 in Latest ITA Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Trinity University men’s tennis team dropped to No. 6 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.

The Tigers posted five straight wins against Division III teams ranked within the top 25 before falling to No. 11 Carnegie Mellon University Wednesday.

The Tigers have put together a tough spring break schedule in California this week, including matches against No. 8 Kenyon College, No. 24 Cal Lutheran University, No. 11 Carnegie Mellon and No. 15 Whitman. The team will also compete in a tournament hosted by No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with opponents to be determined.

In the match against Kenyon, the Tigers earned an 8-1 win. They swept doubles action, but despite the final score, singles play was no easy feat. All six matches went to three sets, and the Tigers were on the winning side of five. The Tigers took on Cal Lutheran the next day, winning at No. 2 and 3 doubles and No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles for a 6-3 final score. Their loss to Carnegie Mellon came in a third set battle at No. 2 singles as TU fell 4-5.

The Tigers will continue their West Coast trip through the weekend before returning home to face NCAA Division II Midwestern State University and Texas Lutheran University.
