Southwestern's Sombito Steps Down as Head Tennis Coach

GEORGETOWN, Texas - After leading the Pirates to their best finishes ever at the SCAC Championships, Lester Sombito has stepped down as the Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach.

Coach Sombito spent eight seasons at the helm of Southwestern's tennis teams and guided the men's team to a third place finish and women to second place honors at the 2013 SCAC Championships this past spring. 

Sombito has coached 14 All-SCAC Tournament team selections, 8 All-SCAC picks and 17 Honorable Mentions. 

"I am blessed to have been a part of the history and legacy of Southwestern tennis. What has been done and what is yet to come is bigger than any individual. I know the future of the program is bright becuase of the leadership within the athletic department and the quality of the student-athletes," shared Sombito. 

"This is one of the hardest decisions to make and I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Southwestern family."

Sombito will head to the East Williamson County Higher Educatoin Center in Hutto, serving as an Enrollment Services Coordinator. EWCHEC hosts courses for Temple College and Texas State Technical College. 

A search for a new head tennis coach will commence immediately.
