SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2011 SCAC Men's Tennis All-Tournament team this afternoon. Any players or doubles teams that went through the conference tournament undefeated (minimum 2-0) was named to the team.
Top-seeded Trinity University defended its SCAC men’s
tennis championship with a 6-3 win over second-seeded DePauw
University in the title match of the 2011 tournament, which was
played April 24 at the Burns Park Tennis Center.
With the victory, the Texas Tigers won consecutive SCAC
championships for the first time since they rattled off 13 straight
league titles from 1994 through 2006.
Trinity (14-12), ranked 11th in the NCAA Division III, improved to
8-3 all-time against DePauw in the SCAC championship match with
wins over the Indiana Tigers in 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006,
2010 and 2011. DePauw, ranked 17th in the NCAA Division III, topped
Trinity for the league championship from 2007 through 2009. This
year’s championship marked the 20th consecutive SCAC title
match for Trinity which the Tigers have won 16 times.
For the third straight year, Trinity’s Max Frey made the
all-tournament team at #1 singles and he was joined on this
year’s squad by teammates Erick DelaFuente (#3 singles), Greg
Haugen (#5 singles) and Ben Carroll (#6 singles). The Texas Tigers
also placed two of their doubles teams on the 2011 all-tourney
squad – including the #1 doubles team of Bobby Cocanaugher
and Cory Kowal, who earned all-tournament honors for the third
consecutive year. Trinity’s #2 doubles team of DelaFuente
& Frey made the team for a second consecutive year.
