
JOEL COPPERNOLL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE OZARKS, a senior from Bryan, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Monday, January 10 to Sunday, January 16. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 8)
Coppernoll won both the 1000 free (10:41.45), and the 500 free (5:10.19) in Tuesday’s dual at Hendrix College. At the Austin College Invitational, he won the 200 free (1:53.16), the 200 back in a new school record of 2:06.50, and led off the winning 200 yard medley relay team with a 27.76 backstroke leg.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Max Saenz of Austin College led off the 200 medley relay with a 26.04 backstroke and posted winning times of 58.00 in the 100 back and 53.87 in the 100 fly at the Austin College Invite. Sophomore Tony Barbee of Centenary claimed a pair of wins at the Austin College Invitational, touching first in both the 200 fly (2:10.83) and the 500 free (5:22.97), with the latter representing a season-best time. Sophomore Tony Saenz of Colorado College showed his versatility this weekend in the Colorado College vs Adams State dual meet, taking home wins in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.99), and the 100 back (56.48). He also split 55.41 butterfly in the 400 medley relay.
