LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s swimming continued last week as Austin College hosted Colorado College and McMurry in a double-dual meet in Sherman where CC defeated the ‘Roos, 213-78 and the War Hawks, 233-46, while Austin College knocked off McMurry, 178-79.
Colorado College twins Cade and Cole Thurmann each won three individual events and swam a leg in a winning relay to lead the Tigers. Cade touched first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.85), the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.87) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.22). The sophomore also joined Michael Wright, Reese Gawronski and Topher Shepherd to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:20.99.
Meanwhile, Cole turned in victories in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:05.88 and 2:24.37 and also hit the wall first in the 400-yard IM stopping the clock in 4:32.47. He also teamed up with Julian Frerichs, Eric Dallesasse and Walker Martin to win the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:47.72. Frerichs also captured individual victories in both backstroke events, winning the 100 in a time of 56.78 and the 200 in 2:04.46.
On the boards, Mac O’Brien and Keelan Woodard finished one, two in the 1-meter event with scores of 169.05 and 163.87.
Austin College was led by Max Saenz with a pair of individual victories. Saenz won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.94 and finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.25. He also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (57.01). David Mowles also helped lift the ‘Roos to a victory over McMurry with two second place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (50.48) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.17).
Ethan Sykes posted the top finish for McMurry, placing second in the 200-yard butterfly hitting the wall in 2:07.93. Sykes also turned in another second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.89 to lead the War Hawks.
The SCAC Swimming and Diving season continues this week, highlighted by Trinity hosting McMurry and Southwestern in the Tiger Invitational, Colorado College traveling to Arizona for the Phoenix Fall Classic and Ozarks taking on Williams Baptist in a dual meet.
