LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s swimming & diving returned to the pool following the holiday break as Austin College hosted Centenary, McMurry, Ozarks and three other institutions for the Austin College Invitational last Saturday at the Hannah Natatorium in Sherman, Texas.
Austin College was the top finishing SCAC school coming in third with 413 points, followed by Centenary in fourth (233), Ozarks in sixth (175) and McMurry finished in sixth out of seven teams with 106 points. Oklahoma Christian University won the meet with a total of 779.5 points.
The ‘Roos were led by freshman Ethan Nguyen, turned in a pair of top three finishes including touching the wall first in the in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.64. Nguyen added a third-place finish in the 100 IM, posting a time of 55.29. Other highlights included freshman David Mowles finishing the meet with a pair of runner-up finishes in the 500- and 200-yard freestyle with times of 5:02.67 and 1:48.39 respectively. In the diving, well, senior Colton Baker finished third in both the 1- and 3-meter boards.
Senior Eddie Dyess and sophomore Richard LaFleur were the top finishers for Centenary as each posted a fourth-place finish at the meet. Dyess hit the wall in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:20.54, while LaFleur turned in a time of 2:19.36 in the 200-yard backstroke.
Ozarks was led by sophomore Nicolas White and senior Jacob Jones. White finished seventh in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:05.90 and Jones turned in a top-10 finish, hitting the wall in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.55, good enough for eighth place.
The War Hawks were led by freshman Terrin Boehmer after he finished third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.40. Boehmer also turned in a strong time in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing ninth in 23.10.
SCAC men’s swimming & diving will continue this week highlighted by Colorado College and McMurry participating in the CC Classic. Austin College will host Centenary and Southwestern travels to Trinity for respective dual meets.
