LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The league’s four teams that were in action this past week were all in San Antonio swimming at the Trinity Tiger Invitational and at the site of the 2019 SCAC Championship meet - Palo Alto College Natatorium.
The Colorado College men finished in sixth place with 215 points at the three-day event. Among the highlights, sophomore Casey Black placed third in the 3-meter diving competition on Sunday, while freshman Keelan Woodard was fifth. The 200 medley relay team of senior Ethan Schick, junior Eric Dallesasse and freshmen Julian Frerichs and Reese Gawronski finished seventh with a time of 1:38.37.
McMurry posted a ninth-place finish in the strong field. Newcomers Alec Satre and Ethan Sykes posted impressive swims as the duo led the War Hawks’ 400 freestyle relay with both posting 49 second splits.
The Southwestern men finished in fifth place with 310 points in the nine-team field. Among the highlights for the Pirates was freshman Keith Gill setting a school record in the 100 free. He touched in a time of 45.61, edging out UT-Permian Basin swimmer Nikita Naumov (46.43) to win the event. Gill also placed fourth in both the 50 free (21.14) and 200 free (1:42.52). Peter Robinson posted a third-place finish in the 200 free (1:41.93) and the 400 free relay team of Mario Foltz, Dylan Neumann, Gill and Robinson finished third in a time of 3:07.03.
Trinity finished third at its own Tiger Invitational with 555 points, 33 points behind second-place DII member UT-Permian Basin. Among the top performances for the Tigers, Jacob Hurrell-Zitelman captured the men’s 1,650-yard free with a NCAA ‘B’ cut mark of 16:02.77. He finished nearly 15 seconds ahead of his closest opponent from UT-Permian Basin. The quartet of Daniel Sarman, Leon Faulk, Eamon Morris, and Shamzi Alkaff won the gold in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay, at 3:06.81. Beau Tipton placed second in the men’s 200-yard fly and broke the school record with a time of 1:50.06, while picking up a ‘B’ cut mark. Daniel Valmassei won the men’s 3-meter diving event with an NCAA Regional qualifying score of 291.00, while Anthony Liva was runner-up. Valmassei also took the low-board title on Saturday.
Teams will take the Thanksgiving weekend off before returning to the pool the weekend of Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1. Centenary College and the University of the Ozarks will compete at the Hendrix College Invite while McMurry University will host Austin College in a dual.
