Trinity Wraps Up NCAA Meet with Three More All-America Performances

GREENSBORO, N.C.
- A trio of Trinity sophomore student-atheltes, two swimmers and one diver, earned Honorable Mention All-America honors over the final two days of competition at the 2019 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.

On Friday, Beau Tipton earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in the men's 200-yard butterfly by placing 10th with time of 1:48.74 in the consolation finals at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. He swam the morning preliminaries and tied for eighth place. A swim-off was required and Tipton missed eighth place and All-America recognition by a mere 1.04 seconds.

Also on Friday, first-year women's diver Maren Merwarth completed her competition with a 24th-place finish on the 1-meter board, chalking up a score of 352.15. Merwarth placed 28th on the high board earlier in the week.

On Saturday's final day of competition, Daniel Valmassei and Mabel Fowler both earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades. Valmassei finished in 16th place in men's 3-meter diving with a score of 338.90, while Fowler swam the women's 200-yard backstroke in 2:03.45 and finished 15th in the consolation final. She qualified for the consolation round by finishing 16th in the morning preliminaries.

Earlier in the meet, Valmassei earned All-America honors by finishing fourth on the low board, which followed his Honorable Mention All-America distinction in the event last year.

Sophomore Anthony Liva concluded the Championships with a 22nd-place finish Saturday on the men's high board.

Trinity's men finished in 27th place as a team, while the women were tied for 47th.
