SAN ANTONIO - Trinity University Director of Athletics Bob King has announced the appointment of Scott Trompeter as head coach of the swimming & diving teams.
Coach Trompeter has served for two years as an assistant to long-time Head Coach John Ryan, who indicated he plans to retire in May. Coach Ryan led Trinity's swimming program for 25 years.
"Though he has only been at Trinity a short time, it is clear to me that we have found an exceptional coach in Scott," said King. "We are excited to have someone who understands what a special place Trinity is, and can continue a long tradition of excellence in swimming & diving."
Over the past two seasons, Coach Trompeter has played a major role in the success of the Tiger teams. Three Trinity swimmers have earned All-America honors in the time period, and a trio has garnered Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year accolades.
The Tiger men and women also captured the SCAC Swimming & Diving Championship in 2016 and 2017. Trinity's women have won 17 conference team titles overall, and the men have prevailed 10 times. Additionally, the Tigers have won 37 individual SCAC men's and women's swimming titles during Coach Trompeter's time on the staff.

Coach Trompeter joined the Trinity staff after serving as a graduate assistant coach for three years at the NCAA Division I University of the Incarnate Word, located in San Antonio. He earned a Master of Arts in administration, with a concentration in sport management, in 2014.
The Cardinals placed high in the NCAA Division II Championships in 2013, before moving to Division I. UIW's men finished third at nationals, and the women were fourth. Women's swimmers won three individual national titles, and the men captured one.
Coach Trompeter served as head coach of elite age-group swimmers of San Antonio's North East Independent School District's Alamo Area Aquatic Association team from 2011 to 2012. He also was the assistant coach for high school-level swimmers. Coach Trompeter has mentored numerous state champions at the age-group and high school levels.
As a member of the University of Texas at Austin men's swim team from 2005 to 2009, Coach Trompeter sparked the Longhorns to two second-place finishes at the NCAA Division I Championships in 2008 and 2009. He also worked for the University of Texas Swim Camp, and was head coach of the Mueller Swim Team, located in the Austin area.
Coach Trompeter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in corporate communication from Texas in May 2010. He also worked with Clear Channel Communications in Austin, writing proposals for the promotions department, and updating radio stations' websites.
