Southwestern Men Take Lead After Day One of the SCAC Swimming & Diving Championship

LEWISVILLE, Texas -- After sweeping both relays Wednesday night, the Southwestern men jumped out to a quick lead in the team standings through the first day of competition at the 2017 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the LISD Westside Aquatic Center. Official Website | Wednesday's Complete Results | Team Scores

The Pirates have a team score of 112 while Trinity is second with 98 points. Centenary and Colorado College follow closely in third and fourth with 88 and 82 points, respectively. Austin College is fifth with 70 points and McMurry is in sixth with 66 points. SCAC newcomer University of the Ozarks did not field a team in either of the relays and has yet to score.

In the first men's event of the championships, Southwestern's team of Michael Glover, Mickey Scharbrough, Matt Sluss and Simmon Belaineh started the evening off with a bang, setting a new SCAC meet record in the 200 medley relay with a finishing time of 1:32.21. Trinity was second in a time of 1:32.38 and Centenary was third with a finish of 1:35.37.

In the evening's final event, the 800 freestyle relay, Southwestern once again touched the wall first as the team of Matt Sluss, Michael Glover, Peter Robinson and Todd Coachman finished in a winning time of 6:53.33. Centenary came home in second with a time of 6:57.93 and Trinity was third in 6:58.89.
