SUWANEE, Ga. - The SCAC will be well
represented at the NCAA Division III National Swimming and Diving
Championship Meet which begins March 21st on the campus of the
IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana. Franklin College is serving as host
of this year's championship meet. Official Psych Sheet
On the men's side, 2012 SCAC Swimmer of the Meet senior Jordan
DeGayner of Colorado College will compete in three individual
events. Last year, DeGayner earned all-America honors in the
200-yard freestyle with a fourth-place finish and will again
compete in that event this year. He will also compete in 50 and
100-yard freestyle. Kevin Dorff (So.), Matt Nadel (Fr.) and Devin
Wahl (Sr.) will join DeGayner in their “national” debut
for the 200, 400 and 800 free relays.
Trinity University – the 2012 SCAC men's champions –
will be represented by junior Spencer Bard who will compete in the
100-yard butterfly after breaking the 12-year old SCAC record for
the event at the conference championships.
Senior Courtland Day of Sewanee will compete in two individual
events at the national championships swimming in both the 100 and
200-yard butterfly.
For the women, Centre, Colorado College, Sewanee and Trinity will
all have individuals represented at the 2012 Swimming and Diving
National Championships.
Centre will be led by 2012 SCAC Swimmer of the Meet, sophomore
Clark Weber. As a freshman, Weber earned honorable mention
all-America honors in the 1,650-yard freestyle and will again
compete in that event this year. She will also compete in the 200
and 500-yard freestyle. Colleen Maggard, who earned honorable
mention all-America honors a year ago as a junior with a 13th-place
finish in the 200-yard backstroke, joins her teammate Weber in
representing the Colonels at the NCAA National Meet. Maggard will
also compete in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke as an individual at
the 2012 national meet.
Joining Weber and Maggard will be Hadley Judson (Fr.) and Holly
Oatman (Jr.) racing in the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle
relay, the 400 freestyle relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay. It
is the first time since 2009 that a relay team from Centre has
qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Colorado College sends freshman Devin Wahl as its lone individual
female to represent the Colorado Tigers at the 2012 national meet.
Wahl will swim the 200-yard butterfly along with the 500 and
1,650-yard freestyle.
Sewanee will be represented by sophomore Astrid Escobar making her
national meet debut swimming in three individual events including
the 200-yard IM along with the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.
Trinity will be represented by sophomore swimmer Melanie Gustafson
along with a pair of divers, sophomore Kathryn Sheldon and junior
Ruth Hahn. Gustafson will compete in two individual events –
the 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle. After earning All-America honors
in diving last season as a sophomore, Hahn returns along with
Sheldon who makes her national meet debut to compete in both the
one and three-meter diving events.
