Fortner had a fantastic game as a defender, anchoring a backline that limited the opportunities for one of the best-attacking teams in the region and the best goal-scorer in conference history. His efforts led Southwestern to a crucial shutout victory over Texas Lutheran with numerous game-saving tackles. TLU put pressure on the Pirates all night long but were unable to land any shots in the back of the net.
Senior goalkeeper Sami Borchalli of Centenary made history on Sunday as he broke two individual program records. He became the all-time career leader in saves (409) in the division III era (2011-present) in program history with a single-game record 17 saves. Junior goalkeeper Rodrigo Lazo of St. Thomas allowed just one goal and made four critical saves in the Celts 2-1 win over Trinity last Friday. The loss was the first of the season in conference play for the Tigers. Junior defender Jesus Veloz of Trinity led the Tigers to a road weekend split, bouncing back from a tough loss at St. Thomas on Friday to a shutout win over Centenary on Sunday. In the win, Veloz contributed offensively, scoring twice, and adding an assist.
