ALEXANDER WARD OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a freshman defender from Portland, Ore., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, March 14th.
Ward factored in Colorado College?s 2-1 victory at Schreiner with his play at both ends of the pitch. Ward played 87 minutes and was part of CC’s defensive effort that limited the Mountaineers to just six total shots, only four of which were on target. In the offensive third, Ward’s left-footed cross into the box led directly to Jackson Silverstein’s game-winning goal in the 61st minute. Ward now is tied for third on the team with three points. He has factored in both of the Tigers’ game-winning goals, scoring one and setting up the other.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeeper Caleb Strange of Dallas saw his first action of the season, playing the final 53:49 minutes in a draw at St. Thomas on Sunday. After surrendering a goal, Strange kept the Celts off the board with four saves, including one in the second overtime. Freshman defender Juan Gomez of St. Thomas anchored a backline that surrendered just one goal in the run of play during a double overtime 2-2 tie against Dallas last week.
