ANDREA CODISPOTI OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior forward from Rockville Centre, N.Y., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 29th.
Codispoti led Trinity to a pair of non-conference wins over the weekend, defeating Texas Lutheran and Southwestern to run the team’s win streak to three games. Codispoti scored three of the six Tiger goals over the two games, including both goals in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Southwestern. He netted the opener in the fourth minute of play to put Trinity ahead 1-0, then broke a 1-1 tie with the game-winner in the 84th minute of action. This season, Codispoti leads Trinity with five goals scored and two game-winners.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman midfielder Nick Garcia of Centenary scored three goals and tallied an assist, including the game-winning goal against Dallas on Sunday to help lead the Gents to a perfect 3-0 record last week. Freshman forward Griffin Meyer of Colorado College struck for the ‘golden goal’ 4:18 into overtime to give CC a 2-1 victory at Johnson & Wales last Friday. It was Meyer’s first career game winner. Senior forward Hunter Haugland of Dallas scored twice, including what would be the game-winning goal in the Crusader’s victory at University of St. Thomas last week. Freshman midfielder Ashton Bynum of Southwestern scored an unassisted goal to help lead the Pirates to a victory over Schreiner last Friday. Senior forward Carlos Marquez of St. Thomas scored twice last week, including the game-winner against Austin College on Sunday. Senior defender Lalo Lopez-Rivera of Texas Lutheran scored and had an assist in the 3-0 road win over Schreiner. From his defender position, Lopez-Rivera moved up to score in the 80th minute, and he had an assist on Cameron Townes’s goal in the 56th minute.
