Joseph Khalaf, Austin College, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 9)

JOSEPH KHALAF OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior goalkeeper from Sherman, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played the week of Monday, October 22nd to Sunday, October 28th.

Khalaf finished the regular season strong, coming away with two clean sheets as the 'Roos went 1-0-1 on the road and locked up the sixth seed for next weekend's conference tounament. The senior played all 200 minutes in goal, making a combined 15 saves in a 1-0 win over Texas Lutheran and a scoreless double overtime draw at Southwestern.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

Sophomore midfielder Rodrigo Castillo of Trinity led the third-ranked Tigers to a win and a tie in the final regular season weekend of the year. Castillo and the Tigers allowed just one goal over 200 minutes of action over the weekend, posting the team's eighth shutout of the year on Sunday against Johnson & Wales. Sophomore defender Garrison Van Houten of Southwestern was part of two stellar performances as the Pirate defense allowed just one goal in two overtime games, covering ground rapidly to stifle both the University of Dallas and Austin College. Junior goalkeeper Keller Mochel of Colorado College stopped five of the six shots that he faced to help CC post a 1-1 tie against No. 3 Trinity and 4-0 win over Schreiner in the final game of the regular season. In Friday's game against first-place Trinity, Mochel made three saves, including one Jacob Hallenberger's penalty kick late in the 60th minute. On Sunday, he preserved his clean sheet in the 61st minute with a two-handed grab on a header from the edge of the six-yard box.
