GRIFFIN WESLEY OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior defender from Evergreen, Colo. has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches beginning September 18th.
Wesley anchored the Colorado College defense that allowed just nine shots in shutout victories over then first-place Austin (3-0) and Centenary (1-0), as well as a 0-0 tie at Johnson & Wales on Tuesday to begin the week.
With its three consecutive shutout, CC extended its scoreless streak to 314 minutes and lowered its goals-against average to 0.54. In Sunday's win over Centenary, Wesley scored the game's only goal early in the eighth minute when his header off of Tim Huettel's corner kick found the net inside the left post.
Colorado College, which improved to 5-2-2 overall, plays at Southwestern and Texas Lutheran this week.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defender Brent Mandelkorn of Trinity University and the Tiger defense limited both teams to just three shots on goal over the weekend, securing the third consecutive shutout for the team. Mandelkorn earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors alongside Wesley. Junior defender Sean Taylor of the University of Dallas guided the back line that defensively surrendered one goal in 200 minutes this past weekend against Centenary College and Austin College.
