LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer continued last week highlighted by Texas Lutheran and Southwestern picking up a pair of non-conference victories.
TLU (3-1) has now posted three wins through its first four contests for the first time since the 2015 season following shutout victories over Howard Payne, 4-0, on Friday and McMurry, 3-0, on Saturday. It marked the first time since 2016 the Bulldogs have posted back-to-back shutouts. Offensively, sophomore Luis Green and freshman Marco Roman combined for four goals and two assists, including Green registering his second career hat-trick in the win over the Yellow Jackets.
Southwestern (2-1-1) picked up its first victories of the year, defeating Hutson-Tillotson on the road, 1-0, last Friday before returning home to defeat East Texas Baptist, 2-1, on Sunday. Junior Garrison Van Houten scored the game-winning goal in both contests, both goals coming in the second half to secure the victories.
Austin College (1-2-1) posted its first win of the year last Friday, shutting out East Texas Baptist, 2-0, on the road. Freshman Cesar Escobar scored the game-winner and senior Juan Rodriguez finished with six saves to register his first career shutout in net. The ‘Roos finished the week with a 1-1 draw at LeTourneau on Saturday.
Schreiner (1-2-1) split a pair of non-conference contests last week, falling to McMurry before bouncing back to earn its first win of the year with a 1-0 shutout over Howard Payne on the road. Sophomore Kevin Escalera scored his second goal of the season to give the Mountaineers the victory, while freshman Brandon Gonzalez collected three saves to earn the shutout.
Colorado College (2-2), Trinity (1-2-1), St. Thomas (1-2) and Johnson & Wales (0-3-1) all dropped a pair of non-conference fixtures last week, while Dallas (1-2) fell in it only action of the week, 2-0, to Mary Hardin-Baylor.
SCAC Men’s Soccer continues this week, highlighted by Centenary squaring off for the first time this season when the Gents host LeTourneau on Tuesday.
