LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southwestern University had a huge weekend, going 2-0 this week including a SCAC win over Centenary. The Pirates move into second place in the SCAC and put themselves in great position to play in the SCAC Championship Game in late April. Centenary dropped a pair of matches and continue to look for their first win, dropping matches to Huntingdon and before mentioned Southwestern.
AROUND THE SCAC
Centenary went 0-2 for the week including a
weather-shortened SCAC opener against Southwestern. Orin Redwood
and Garrett Wick each recorded scores for the Gents with Redwood
leading the squad with a pair of goals. The duo combined for 14 of
the Gents’ 32 shots for the week. John Vasquez paced the
squad with nine groundballs while Bastien Hay and Wick each picked
up seven GBs each to tie for second most on the team. Hay played
all 105 minutes in net tallying 25 saves in the two setbacks.
Colorado College returns to action on Wednesday, April 2, when it plays host to Adams State University at Washburn Field. The contest is the first of two against Division II opponents from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Colorado Mesa University travels to Colorado Springs on Saturday, April 19. The Tigers, who are riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Babson College, Otterbein University and Southwestern during a five-day span over spring break, own a 4-0 record at home this season.
Southwestern went 2-0 in games this week to post the most wins ever for a Pirate men’s lacrosse team. SU beat Huntingdon 9-8 and outlasted a final surge from the Hawks at home on Wednesday before defeating Centenary 19-1 on Friday night. Southwestern moves to 7-4 on the year and 1-1 in conference play after the weekend. They return to the field on April 4th to face Franciscan before taking on Capital in the same road trip.
