AROUND THE SCAC

Centenary was idle this past weekend. They are back at home on Monday as they welcome in Illinois Wesleyan for a night matchup at 6 p.m.

Freshman Jack McCormick struck for three of his four goals in the first half as Colorado College built a 9-2 lead after two quarters and cruised to a 13-7 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology in their home opener on Sunday. With the game tied at 1-1, McCormick notched a pair of markers in a span of 51 seconds to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first period. Dylan Davie gave CC a three-goal lead after 15 minutes, and tallies by Will Harris and Gray Ritger made the score 6-1 just 1:30 into the second quarter. After the Leopards got one back, McCormick, Henri Halle and Ritger each struck in a span of 2:31 to give the Tigers a 10-2 halftime cushion. Davie and Ritger contributed a goal and two assists apiece, while Halle also found the cage twice. Despite playing a man-down for seven minutes, Colorado College finished with a 38-32 advantage in total shots and a 32-29 edge in ground balls. Goaltender Chase Murphy steered aside eight shots before giving way to Zach Steedman with a little more than 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Steedman finished with three saves. P.J. Higgins paced the Tiger defense with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. CC travels to Eastern University on Friday, March 14, and the Tigers wrap up their two-game road trip two days later at Lynchburg College.

Southwestern had a light week of action, facing #13 Roanoke College on Wednesday at home. Southwestern fell behind early in the first quarter and were never in control of the game, falling 15-2 on a very chilly Central Texas afternoon. The loss drops SU to 3-2 on the year. They return to the field on Saturday to face Hope College at home at 1 p.m.
