Men's Lacrosse Recap (Week 5) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southwestern moved its record to 4-2 with a win over Hope College thanks to an outstanding team effort on both the offensive and defensive effort to sweep the SCAC Player of the Week Awards. Colorado College came within inches of upsetting No. 12 Lynchburg as well as knocking off Easter. Centenary continues to seek its first win as they push forward.

 

 

 

 

 

 

AROUND THE SCAC 

Centenary dropped a 28-2 decision to Illinois Wesleyan University on Monday evening.  The Gents fall to 0-4 on the season while the IWU improves to 3-0. Both Centenary goals came from the stick of Orin Redwood who increased now leads the team in goals. The Little Rock, Ark., senior pasted his first goal on the board with 9:28 remaining in the third quarter off an assist Hunter Fairbairn. His second goal came with 2:44 left in the contest off an assist from Demri Robinson. Redwood led the team with four shots. Centenary totaled 13 shots in the contest with seven coming on goal. Bastien Hay (0-3) received the loss playing 15 minutes without saves. Garrett Wick recorded the final 45 minutes in between the pipes with 15 goals allowed and tallying five saves. Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, March 18 as the Gents host Hope at 4 p.m.

Colorado College dropped a pair of close decisions during a two-game trek to the East Coast last week. On Friday night, the Tigers won the statistical battles, but fell 11-9 at Eastern University. CC took an 8-6 lead, its largest of the game, when freshman attackman Jack McCormick capped a 5-0 run midway with 8:44 remaining in the third quarter. The Eagles took the lead 22 seconds into the fourth quarter and struck for the game winner with 9:10 remaining in the contest. Senior midfielder Jack Kreitler pulled Colorado College to within a goal with 8:54 remaining, but that was as close as the Tigers with get. Kreitler led CC with three goals and junior midfielder Henri Halle added a pair. Sophomore goaltender Chase Murphy made 10 saves, while sophomore defender Tim Jenkins scooped up three ground balls. Colorado College staged a dramatic second-half rally to pull to within a goal at No. 11 Lynchburg College, but the Tigers ran out of time before they could notch the equalizer and the Hornets escaped with a 10-9 victory on Sunday. Trailing 8-3 after 30 minutes, CC used markers by Kreitler, senior midfielder Will Harris and freshman attackman Austin Davie to cut its deficit to two midway through the third quarter. Lynchburg, however, answered with a pair of tallies to take a 10-6 lead with 15 minutes to play. With his team in need of a quick spark, Kreitler struck for a second time early in the fourth quarter, then junior midfielder Dylan Davie and senior attackman Tyler Allen scored 88 seconds apart to pull Colorado College to within a single goal with 5:13 left in the contest. That, however, proved to be the final tally of the game. Kreitler, who also set up Dylan Davie’s man-up goal, led the Tigers with three points. Allen finished with a pair of tallies, while Gray Ritger had a goal and two assists. Murphy made five of his eight saves during the first quarter. Sophomore defender Tim Jenkins caused a pair of turnovers and grabbed four ground balls for the Tigers. CC opens a five-game home stand on Wednesday when Babson College visits Washburn Field. The Tigers also will play host to Otterbein University and Southwestern this week.

Southwestern returned to the  field on Saturday to take on Hope College on a soggy Saturday. Southwestern started strong and held off the Dutchmen with diligent defense to win 11-6. Southwestern improves to 4-2 on the season with the win. They return to the field on Monday evening to face Birmingham-Southern at 7 p.m.
