MATTHEW CHRISTL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Flower Mound, Texas, has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for competition played through Tuesday, October 10th.
Christl took ninth place at the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational, posting a two-round score of 143 (-1) to lead the Pirates to an 11th place finish in a field of 18 teams.
Christi closed out the tournament after shooting a 71 (-1) in the second round to move up eight spots in the standings. The tournament was condensed to 27 holes on Saturday and the remaining nine on Sunday in an effort to avoid weather from Hurricane Nate.
The tournament featured multiple nationally-ranked programs, and Christl's ninth place finish was among a field of 97 golfers. He posted eight birdies, which was fifth among all players.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman Robby Evan of the University of Dallas posted identical rounds of 76 in a pair of dual matches against Hendrix College over the weekend.
