HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) men’s golf season came to a close Wednesday evening following the midway-point cutoff of the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championships as all three conference individuals competing for medalist honors came up short of being one of the top six individuals not on one of the 18 advancing teams to move on to the final two rounds.
Southwestern’s Christian Rodriguez, the SCAC medalist at last month’s conference championship, was the highest conference finisher after firing a two-day total of 154 to post +11, tied for 69th. Rodriguez opened with a round of 75 and was the lone SCAC athlete to post a pair of rounds in the 70s, closing out with a 79 on Wednesday. He finished the two days with six birdies, tied for 35th in the field.
Texas Lutheran junior Chase Maus closed out his NCAA performance by posting a second round 81, to finish with a two-day total of 156, following an opening round 75 and finished tied for 80th. Maus, like Rodriguez, finished the week with six birdies, tied for the 35th most in the championship field.
Rounding out the SCAC performances was Trinity’s Jacob Mason. Mason fired rounds of 78 and 83 to finish tied for 133rd with a two-round total of 161 (+18). He finished the two day with five birdies, tied for the 54th most in the NCAA field.
