Southwestern's Rodriguez, Texas Lutheran's Maus, Lead SCAC Competitors After Opening Round of NCAA Championships

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- Southwestern University’s Christian Rodriguez and Texas Lutheran University’s Chase Maus each fired an opening round of 75 to finished tied for 54th following the first day of the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship at Mission Inn Resort to lead a trio of SCAC individuals. 

Rodriguez, the SCAC individual medalist at last month’s championship, finished the par-71, 6,792 yard course with 11 pars and two birdies to post a four over 75.

Maus led all SCAC golfers with four birdies on Tuesday, including a stretch of two in a row and three of the opening six holes of his back nine to post 75.

Rodriguez and Maus are seven strokes back of the leader William Knauth of Carnegie Mellon after he posted a 3-under round of 69.

Trinity University’s Jacob Mason posted a seven-over mark of 78, highlighted by three birdies to finish the first round tied for 114th.

All three SCAC individuals will tee off Wednesday afternoon for second round action, starting with Southwestern’s Rodriguez at 12:05 PM ET.
