LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s golf teams were in action last week at two different events, highlighted by Southwestern finishing third at the Golfweek Div. III Fall Invitational.
The Pirates fired a three-day total of 865 (282-292-282) at Raven Golf Club on the par-71, 6,659-yard course, 14-strokes behind team champion Emory (842). Senior Sutherland Stith and junior Cade Osgood led the way for SU, finishing in a tie for fifth after a 54-hole total of 209. Stith opened the tournament with his low round of the event firing a 68 and finished the week with 10 birdies and one eagle. Osgood, who led the field in par-three scoring (2.80 avg) and closed the tournament with his lowest round of the week (67), finished with 12 birdies in three days. The duo also took advantage on the par-fives combining to finish six-under on those holes.
Dallas, Trinity, Texas Lutheran and Schreiner all competed in the rain-shortened Alamo City Classic last Tuesday. Houston-Victoria won the team title at the eight-team event with an 18-hole score of 306, followed by Dallas in third with 310 strokes, Trinity in fourth with 311 strokes and Texas Lutheran and Schreiner finishing in a tie for fifth with a team score of 318.
Individually, seven players from the SCAC finished in a tie for 10th or better at the event that featured 45 golfers. Leading the way was Dallas senior Thomas Schuberg who finished second with 73 strokes at The Quarry Golf Club on the par-71, 6,703-yard course. Schuberg carded a total of four birdies on the day. Wyatt Koricanek of Schreiner and Dawson Dally of Trinity finished in a three-way tie for third along with Tucker Norris of Trinity who competed as an individual as all three came in with four-over rounds of 75. Texas Lutheran freshman Chase Maus, Trinity sophomore Bryce Pidgeon and Dallas sophomore Robby Evans finished in a six-way tie for 10th with matching 18-hole scores of 77.
The fall portion of the 2018-10 schedule concludes this weekend as Johnson & Wales competes in the Wildcat/Cougar Duel and Centenary, Southwestern and Texas Lutheran will all tee it up at the Hardin-Simmons Abilene Intercollegiate.
