SCAC Men's Golf Spring Recap - Week Three

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five of the league's seven men's teams made their way to the course at three different events, including the Schreiner University Spring Shootout where Dallas and Trinity joined the host school in the 10-team field.

Playing on its home course, Schreiner finished third in the 10-team field at Comanche Trace with a two-day total of 602. The Mountaineers finished seven shots behind second-place McMurry University. Future SCAC member University of St. Thomas won the event with a team score of 591. Senior Jason Lopez led Schreiner with rounds of 70 and 75 for a two-day total of 145 and a tie for fifth place among individuals. Sophomore Wyatt Koricanek was tied for 12th with a 151.

The University of Dallas finished in sixth place after a pair of 308 rounds produced a final score of 616. Junior Erik Hamm led the Crusaders with the best two-round finish of his career after shooting a 147 overall, with a 73 mark in the second round. He tied for eighth in the 65-person field.

The Trinity men placed eighth after firing a second-round 316 for a 626 total, just seven strokes behind seventh-place University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Sophomore Bryce Pidgeon shot a final-round 80 and tied for 14th place with an 8-over-par score of 152.

At the adidas Intercollegiate, which was contestaed Monday and Tuesday at Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike Course, Texas Lutheran's Colin Uecker (73-71-72--216) won the individual title to lead the Bulldogs to a fifth-place team finish. The senior birdied the first playoff hole to capture medliast honors in a three-man playoff with Casey Leebrick of York (Pa.) and Michael Barber of Millikin (Ill.).

TLU had rounds of 305, 297 and 306 to post a three-round total of 908 (+44), three shots behind fourth-place Rensselaer Polytechnic. Oglethorpe Univeristy won the team event with a three round score of 883.

Earlier in the week, Johnson & Wales University junior Alex Fernandez carded a third-round 77 on Sunday to lead the Wildcats' men's golf team to a sixth place finish at the Oregon Tech Spring Invite. Fernandez finished with a three-round total of 244 (+28) to place 18th individually at Eagle Point Golf Club. The third-round 77 marked Fernandez's best of the spring season.
