Schreiner's Wolcik, Southwestern's Gammill Highlight Men's Golf Awards

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- In exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the league office announces the 2017 Men's Golf postseason award winners.

Joseph Wolcik of Schreiner University and Tyler Gammill of Southwestern University were named the Co-Golfers of the Year, while Wolcik's teammate Blake Hartford earned Freshman of the Year honors. Southwestern Head Coach Greg Sigler was named the league's Coach of the Year for the second consecutive time.

Wolcik was the top freshman at the 2017 SCAC Men's Golf Championship - finishing in a tie for third with a three-round total of 230 (79-73-78). He earned First Team All-SCAC honors in the process. During the 2016-17 season, Wolcik averaged 74.05 and posted three top 5 finishes and four finishes in the top 10. Among his highlights during the season, he capped a wire-to-wire win by an impressive five shots to claim the James S. Litz Memorial against a field of 71 scholarship players from NCAA Division I, NAIA and junior colleges. He had a season-low round of 66 during the event and earned SCAC Golfer-of-the-Week for his efforts.

Gammill, a junior from Austin, Texas, was the medalist at the SCAC championship this season, recordinga three round score of 226 (74-79-73). For the season, he posted a 74.28 scoring average, while recording three top three finishes and a pair of tournament wins, including the West Region Invitational. Gammill earned First Team All-SCAC honors with his finish at the conference championship and was also named to the PING All-Region team.

Hartford, a freshman from Spring, Texas, was named PING All-West Region as well as a member of the national All-Freshmen Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He earned All-SCAC Second Team honors at the 2017 championship and was a two-time SCAC Golfer of the Week during the 2016-17 season.

Hartford received three of the possible six votes for Freshman of the Year, while Southwestern's Cade Osgood earned two and Trinity University's Max Mitchell captured the final vote.

Sigler earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Pirates to a second consecutive SCAC title and claiming the individual medalist. For the season, the Pirates posted five top five finishes, including a second place finish at the West Region Invitational and a third place finish at the Linda Lowery Invitational. The Pirates also took 14th in a field of 29 teams at the highly competitive Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.
