BLANCO, Texas -- Behind a 1-2 finish from Tyler Gammill and Matthew Christl, Southwestern University earned its second consecutive SCAC men's golf title Tuesday afternoon at Vaaler Creek Golf Club. Official Championship Website | Results | Day Two Photo Gallery
Gammill, who finished with a three-round total of 226 (+10) to earn SCAC Men's Medalist honors for the second consecutive year, is the first repeat tournament champion on the men's side since Chris Morris of Centre College won in 2010 and 2011.
The Pirates finished with a score of 912 (+48), nine shots better than second-place Trinity University who had a 921. Texas Lutheran University was third with a team score of 925.
Rounding out the team scoring, Schreiner University finished fourth with a 929, the Univerity of Dallas was fifth at 982 and Centenary College placed sixth with a 1033.
Despite winning the tournament, Southwestern will have to await the results of the NCAA Selection Show next week to learn if they have earned their fifth consecutive bid into the NCAA Division III National Championship hosted by Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida May 16-19. The SCAC does not have an automatic bid in the sport of men's golf.
