Southwestern Leads Tight Race at the SCAC Men's Golf Championship

BLANCO, Texas -- After 36 holes of action, defending champion Southwestern University leads a pack of three teams separated by just four shots as the first and second rounds were completed Monday at the 2017 SCAC Men's Golf Championship Vaaler Creek Golf Club.Official Championship Website | Men's Round One Results | Men's Round Two Results Photo Gallery

Tomorrow's final 18 holes will begin at 8 a.m. on the par-72, 6,864-yard layout.

With two rounds in the books, Southwestern is sitting at 608 (+32) and is three shots clear of the first-round leader Texas Lutheran which finished with a two-round total of 611 (+35). Schreiner University is third with a two-round score of 612 (+36).

The Pirates' Matthew Christi holds the 36-hole lead heading into Tuesday's final round. He fired rounds of 71 and 75 to post a 146 (+2). Taner Zimmerhanzel of Texas Lutheran is second with a 147.

A quartet of golfers shot 152 (+8) to tie for third, including three golfers from Schreiner: Joseph Wolcik (79-73), Jason Lopez (75-77) and Blake Hartford (79-73). Colin Uecker of Texas Lutheran (73-79) is also among that group of golfers six shots off the lead.

Rounding out the team scoring, Trinity University is in fourth place with a 618 (+42), the Univerity of Dallas is fifth at 658 (+82) and Centenary College is sixth with a 694 (+118).
